FORACULTURE a landscape architecture practice that plays with and explores novel ways to interact and think about land.

We plan, design and plant spaces that are meant to deepen our relationships to the most simple and elemental things - land, water, plants, fire, food, medicine, each other.

The name FORACULTURE is a delicious coming together of a few words that are tantalizingly close to how we think about land but don’t quite capture it fully. We are FORAGING the best parts of our CULTURE FOR A different and new kind of CULTURE that is as rich and reverent as our landscapes. We want to develop and encourage a modern FORAGING CULTURE that is certainly not as intensive as AGRICULTURE and sort of like PERMACULTURE but more like FORAGING and HORTICULTURAL societies before the middle ages, only in our own age and in our own way.

And so, FORACULTURE is all about plants. We can tell you when the oaks will mast and which ones to pay attention to. We carry pruners on our hips and in our cars, everywhere. We are always wandering around looking up and if not, usually somewhat close to the ground.

As designers, we are forever curious. We aren't experts but participants, rapturous facilitators and valued co-conspirators.

Our practice is based on the southern Maine coast with a small studio space, experimental homestead and plant nursery. We are an interdisciplinary team of designers and planners constantly weaving and reweaving our creativity together into a rich holistic practice.
